Artist wallpapers entrance to top london designer store
The artist DFBean has created an installation to go on display January 24, 2005 inside the entrance of Harvey Nichols in London's Knightsbridge area.
The work features a photographic montage of handbag sculptures made by the artist and will cover the entrance area and waiting area of the elevators leading to the 5th floor restaurant at the popular luxury designer fashion store.
The installation entitled 'Muse' makes reference to the nude female artist's muse. A ready-made classic handbag has replaced the human muse. The image is repeated throughout the whole surface in bright colours. In a cabinet lie the original muse sculptures: solid, shiny, coloured replica handbag sculptures laid bare for the eye of the beholder. The location of this work in this store makes an ironic reference to the inspiration of the fashion object in the life of the wearer. The installation will remain for on display for a month. Harvey Nichols is open from 10 am - 12 pm, seven days a week.
